Kelly Abeln (O'Hara) honored with Peabody Energy Leaders in Education Award

Keely Abeln recently was honored as one of Peabody Energy's Leaders in Education for the 2012-13 school year. Peabody surprised Abeln with the award, accompanied by a $1,000 prize, during a band class Nov. 8.Peabody started the program in 2009 to recognize people who make a positive impact on school environments, be it an outstanding teacher or a compassionate lunch lady. Last year, more than 30 St. Louis area educators received the award.
This is the third consecutive year a Francis Howell Middle staff member has won the award. Current Principal Ted Huff was honored in 2011; special education teacher Melanie Hiemenz received the award in 2010. Six Francis Howell teachers have been named Leaders in Education by Peabody since 2009.
