About MMPAT

The Mid-Missouri Percussion Arts Trophy competition was developed by Carol Helble over 10 years ago in order to provide an evaluation and performance opportunity for high school and collegiate marimbists. Leigh Howard Stevens served as the first guest artist and masterclass clinician. Since the innaugural "marimba only" competition, the event has expanded to include a secondary category that alternates between concert snare drum, timpani, and multi-percussion/drumset.

For the 10th anniversary (March 3rd and 4th, 2017) the competitive categories will be:

  • Marimba
  • Non-Traditional Percussion
  • Duets

  • The top three highest scoring performers in each category and division (high school and collegiate) receive trophies. The top two performers in each category also perform in masterclass with the guest clinicians/judges .

A separate competition requiring a video application will be included this year: "Flash 'N' Trash"
