ensemble auditions
Most ensemble auditions take place during the first week of classes in either just the fall semester (Wind Ensemble) or the fall and spring semesters (Jazz Ensembles and Orchestra).
Following are some of the common audition requirements and
schedules:
DRUMLINE:

WIND ENSEMBLE:
Wind Ensemble auditions are very competitive and held only once per year, at the beginning of each fall semester. Audition materials are posted on the UCM Bands Wind Ensemble page. read more...
JAZZ ENSEMBLES:
All positions for both Jazz Ensembles are open every fall and spring. ign up on Dr. Aaberg's door.
All of the rhythm section players audition together with the following requirements:
1. Sightread big band charts.
2. Play "time" and trade 4's in a variety of styles.
3. Drummers will be asked to play several styles and tempos -
a. Medium Swing
b. Fast Swing
c. Bossa Nova
d. Samba
e. Songo
f. Funk Shuffle
g. Commercial rock or funk groove
SYMPHNIC BAND:
Percussionists will audition for positions with the spring Symphonic Band as well as for chair placement. Auditions will be very similar to those for Wind Ensemble in the fall. read more...

Audition materials for the University Symphony Orchestra are available in the Music Office (Utt 109). Auditions are held during the first week of classes each fall, and again in the spring as needed. read more...
