Auditions: *New* for 2008! The audition process for the Marching Mules Drumline involves two steps.  Please read the information below under “Returning Students” if you performed with the Marching Mules Drumline in the past, or “New Students” if this will be your first time audition for the Marching Mules Drumline:

RETURNING STUDENTS:

1.   Retuning students do not need to audition for a guaranteed position with the Marching Mules Drumline.  However, all students, regardless of status as new or returning, must audition for instrument placement during the fall drumline camp (Mandatory: begins August 13, 2008).

NEW STUDENTS (STEP #1):

1. (Freshman, transfer, or anyone who did not participate during the current academic year). New students must audition for a guaranteed position with the 2008 Drumline.  This preliminary audition may be satisfied in any of the following ways:
                     a.  Auditioning during Scholarship Audition days (November 2007 or February 2008).
                     b.  By appointment with Dr. Sekelsky (spring or summer).
                     c.  By submitting an audition tape (DVD preferred).

2.  Students should prepare the Prescribed Audition Music for their primary area of interest only.

3.  Following the preliminary auditions, new students will be informed of:
        a.  A guaranteed position with the 2008 Drumline, and issued a Fall Audition packet, (audio samples) requiring
the student to attend the mandatory Pre-season Drumline Camp.  A service award offer of $300 will be posted to
the student accounts at UCM following enrollment in MUS 1005 - Marching Band.
        b.  A request to re-audition at a later date (if not accepted initially).
        c.  Option to join the PIT or wait another year to re-audition for the Drumline.

STEP #2 (For all students guaranteed a position with the 2008 Drumline):

Every student earning a position with the 2008 Drumline should download and print the Fall Audition packet  (audio samples).  Placement Auditions will be based on the student's ability to accurately perform the Audition packet materials  (audio samples) during the beginning session of the Pre-Season Drumline Camp.  Students will have the opportunity to rotate between snare, tenors, bass drums, and cymbals, allowing the drumline staff to assess the most effective instrument placement for each student.  Final instrument placement will be announced following the morning session on August 16, 2008.

Scheduling and Preparing an Audition: Returning students will be notified via email of the scheduled spring audition time. New students may audition any time according to the details listed in Step #1 above (an April audition is preferred). Please contact Dr. Michael J. Sekelsky to schedule an audition by appointment.  All students must prepare the Prescribed Drumline Audition Music . Please note the following audition music requirements:

• Examples are intended to be performed at quarter = 120 bpm.
• Every auditioner will also sight-read a short excerpt.
