ISN'T THERE SOMETHING about being a Marching Mule or hearing them play that instantly creates memories and pride. Music can do that! Central Missouri started its first band in 1900, just one year after music reached department status in conjunction with drawing. For more than 100 years, UCM’s marching band has been at the forefront of fostering a collegial spirit and celebrating the university’s milestones. Will you help our nationally renowned Marching Mules carry the UCM spirit throughout the region and state?
THE MARCHING MULES are UCM’s most visible performing ensemble. We aim to attract the finest student-musicians, regardless of course of study, to support our teams, entertain our fans and create the incredible spirit and pride that goes along with being UCM students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends! After all, what game would be complete without the band playing “Go Mules!” or spelling the school’s initials in giant letters on the field during halftime!
We are expanding an initiative started in 2006 to provide awards and scholarships for our wind and percussion players and are now offering TWO very special opportunities to you. FIRST, with your contribution of $1,000 or more to the UCM Bands, the Marching Mules - in full uniform - will spell your name in formation at Kennedy Field in Walton Stadium. The formation will be professionally photographed, matted and framed, and presented to you at halftime of a Mules football or basketball game to forever commemorate your contribution to what has grown to be recognized as one of the best athletic and performance environments in NCAA Division II!
SECOND – and NEW in 2007 – with your contribution of $500 or more to the UCM Bands, the Marching Mules will parade to your football game-day tailgate gathering and perform a personal pep rally for you and your fellow Central Missouri fans prior to that afternoon’s Mules football game! Imagine how fired up your crowd of UCM faithful will be after a performance of the school songs and other pep tunes just for them!
As director of this tremendous group of young men and women, I am constantly and profoundly affected by the dedication of our many alumni and friends. People regularly contact or stop me just to share memories and recollections of their experiences with the band as members or fans – whether five or 50 years ago. I am proud to be a part of this great UCM tradition and hope that we can count on you to help us build for years to come.
