Percussion At The UNIVERSITY of CENTRAL MISSOURI

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Scholarship Audition Days are scheduled for November and  February each year at Central Missouri State University.  Students may also audition by appointment.  Additional information, including an on line registration form, may be found at the following link (right-hand column).

GENERAL:

Central Missouri divides financial assistance into several different categories.  
The first and largest category is Academic Scholarships.  These are available to any qualifying student, and do not require an audition.  Additional information about these awards may be found at: www.cmsu.edu

SERVICE AWARDS:

Most Large Ensembles provide a Service Award that is intended to reward students for their ensemble participation at Central Missouri.  Current Service awards are as follows:

  • FALL BAND: $600– Includes Marching Band and participation in a *Concert band from the conclusion of the marching season until the December Bands Concert (some students continue through commencement, but are paid an additional amount for this service).  *Drumline members are exempt from concert band requirement listed above.
  • PEP BAND: $300 – Membership is selected from the Marching Band.
  • CONCERT BAND (Spring): $200 (Audition held in early October each year).
  • UNIVERSITY JAZZ ENSEMBLE: $150 per semester - (Auditions held during the first 3 days of classes each semester). Students interested in Jazz Service Awards should contact aaberg@cmsu1.cmsu.edu

Each Service Award requires an audition and that students meet full-time enrollment status.  Audition schedule for Drumline is as follows:

§  Returning students complete auditions in April.

§  New students must complete auditions by June 30.

§  Announcements of instrument placement will be made by July 7

The following scholarship information is for students intending to pursue a Music Major or Music Minor at Central, and/or students with an interest in playing in a variety of ensembles.

MUSIC FOUNDATION AWARDS: These Scholarship amounts range from $200 - $500 and may be combined with Service Awards (amounts listed above). Foundation awards normally require participation in a fall and spring ensemble.

          GENERAL: 
          Scholarships are typically offered to students based on the     
          following:

·         Student’s Performance Level in a variety of percussion areas

·         Student’s High School Achievements (Honor Bands; Solos; etc.)

AUDITION: Any of the following are acceptable as audition literature:

·         All-State Band Percussion Materials (Any Option)

·         District/State Music Festival Solo literature

·         Other solos of an Intermediate or Advanced level

EQUIPMENT:       We will be happy to provide equipment for Scholarship Auditions.  4 Timpani, Snare Drum, and an assortment of Keyboard Instruments    will be available.  Please       contact Dr. Sekelsky at the email address below if you have any additional equipment needs.
