GENERAL PERCUSSION INFORMATION

Percussion lessons / instruction Dr. Michael J. Sekelsky, Assistant Director of Bands / Professor of Music – Percussion, is currently in his 23rd year at Central Missouri. 

·        DEGREES: All in Percussion Performance: BM – University of Wisconsin – Superior,  MM and DMA – University of Kansas.

·         LESSONS:  Every Percussion Major / Minor receives an individual weekly lesson (1/2 hour lesson or 1 hour lesson determined by degree program). 

·      AREAS:       Lessons are available from Dr. Sekelsky in the following areas:  All Concert Percussion; Rudimental/Corps Drumming; Drumset; Jazz Vibraphone; Digital Percussion; Hand Drumming.

          COURSE OF STUDY:

FACILITIES / EQUIPMENT Percussion Majors and Minors receive individual practice room keys for up to 3 separate facilities: 

  • Instrumental Rehearsal Room – 5 timpani, 4 1/3 octave marimba; vibraphone; xylophone; snare drums; Concert Percussion.
     

  • Individual Practice room in Hudsonacoustic drumset; digital drumset; 2 marimbas; xylophone; vibraphone; bells; snare drum; multi
     

  • Hudson Teaching Room4 1/3 octave marimba; snare drum; acoustic drumset;

ENSEMBLE OPPORTUNITIES

·         MARCHING MULES:               23 Battery / 10 Pit

·         BASKETBALL PEP BAND:       2 Drumset / 1 Auxiliary

·         JAZZ ENSEMBLES:                 Up to 4 Drumset / 2 Aux. Perc.
                                               / 2 Vibes

·         CONCERT BANDS:                 Up to 7 Percussionists for each
                                               Band

·         ORCHESTRA:                          3 to 5 Percussionists

·         PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE:      Unlimited
