Indoor Drumline Competition Information
Location: Garrison Gymnasium
Classifications: Based on school size (student enrollment) and divided
equally into three classifications *(1, 2, 3). *Unless schools request
to compete in a higher division.
Eligibility: Competing schools are not required to enter the Field Show
competition, however, preference is given to schools that enter both the
Field Show and Drumline events.
The following guidelines are to be observed by all participating
schools.
1. The competition area will be the dimension of a regulation basketball
court. The center court lines and perimeter boundaries will be clearly
indicated. All standard basketball court markings will appear as well.
2. Drumlines should perform toward the South (adjudicators to be located
at the top of the bleacher section). Entrance will be from the Northwest
hallway (see map) to a drum tap only. Exit will be to the West (main
doors) to a drum tap or cadence at the discretion of the performing
group. *Entry to a cadence will result in a 1-point penalty assessment.
Any equipment large enough to require use of the 15’ door may be brought
in and/or removed through the West doors (double doors with no center
post).
3. Each ensemble will have a total of 10 minutes that
includes entry, pit set-up, performance and exit. *Penalty assessment
will be .5 points for each ˝ minute over the 10-minute allotted time.
4. An announcer will introduce each performing group (see item #5
below). If you wish to have any special (brief) information read as your
group enters the arena, please have this available at least 20 minutes
prior to your performance (door monitors will be located at the
North-West entrance and West exit to assist with this process; or,
mail/FAX information in advance to Festival Director).
5. Competition judging will begin according to the following sequence:
When it is apparent that your drumline has assumed a “ready” position on
the court the announcer will say: “________ high school, is your
drumline ready?” A salute, call to attention, or other obvious
acknowledgement of this question should be clearly made by the group’s
captain or other designated person(s). The announcer will then say:
“________ high school, you may take the court in competition.”
Adjudication will commence from this point and continue until the
completion of the performance (exit may be included in adjudicator
evaluation).
6. The use of drill and visuals are not mandatory. However, schools
choosing not to march or use visuals should expect a reduction in points
(see adjudication form).
7. Two judges will be used. Both judges will provide taped and written
comments evaluating all categories.
8. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each class
(4th, and 5th when appropriate).
9. A warm-up area is reserved in North Morrow Gymnasium. Warm-up times
are for a 10-minute duration only, beginning 20 minutes before scheduled
performance time.
10. All equipment must be removed from the performance area following
each performance.
